Inescapable (The Premonition #1) - 76 points

Title: Inescapable
Series Info: The Premonition #1
Author: Amy A. Bartol
My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me--my freshman year of college. I had been hoping that once I had arrived on Crestwood's campus, the nightmare that I've been having would go away. It hasn't.

I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I'm grounded...sane. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he is near, I feel an attraction to him--a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you're thinking...that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would--if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I'm the worst thing that's ever happened to Crestwood...or him. But, get this, for some reason every time I turn around he's there, barging into my life.

What is the secret he is keeping from me? I'm hoping that it is anything but what I expect: that he is not exactly normal...and neither am I. So maybe Crestwood won't be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I have been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is...inescapable.

3 HEARTS!

POINT BREAKDOWN

Plot: 50 points

I really, really enjoyed the paranormal plot of the book! I was very excited to keep reading as soon as I found out what Reed was :) Don't want to give anything away, so that's all I'm going to say...

Characters: 10 points

I very much liked the characters within the book and the relationship between them. Evie sounds gorgeous, and Reed sounds very handsome! I really liked Zephy's character, too. I just had to take some points off because of Russell's southern accent, which I didn't care for and got pretty annoying, and for Buns.. cause she said "sweetie" way too much LOL.

Names of characters: 1 point

The names of the characters were, for the most part, big downers. Some of them were just flat out ridiculous, and others I just didn't like for the role. I like the main characters to have sensual names. Sweet, cute, sexy, adorable...those kind of names. Evie is a good name, but I just don't picture that name for a college student. Maybe for an adult. Reed was disappointing as well. I think of WEED. Zephyr was a cool name... Russell wasn't too bad of a name...but the others sucked.

Writing/Depth: 15 points

Not very good writing depth at all! With what the content and plot of the book entailed, it could have been so much better!!! I was longing for SO MUCH MORE THE WHOLE TIME! The writing seemed like it was really missing something. Some things people said sounded like they were taken very lightheartedly instead of being taken seriously. Some responses were too witty, too dumb, or sounded too emotionless or awkward. The main girl character did things that were clearly dumb, that she knew she shouldn't have done. And even scenes that could have been written very romantically, were not. I don't even know how to express what I'm trying to say, except that I wanted more "umph!"

So now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to read the rest of the books in the series. They got higher ratings so maybe I'll start with one more and go from there.

TOTAL: 76 POINTS
