Series Info: Revenants #1
Series Info: Revenants #1
Author: Amy Plum
In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

The general theme of the book was FANTASTIC! I really loved that this book had a NEW paranormal theme that I hadn't encountered yet. It's about 'revenants', people (for a lack of better words) who died saving someone's life in the past, and now spend the rest of their existence trying to save souls, dying for them when necessary. I thought the whole 'dormancy' idea was pretty cool because it lastest three days (know of anyone else who died and rose three days later??? Yeah...I caught that!). In fact, I really liked all the revenant's abilities. The love story between Kate and Vincent was also adorable of course :) The way he talked to her and the things he said...some of which were in sexy French! Oh yeah..did I mention the book is set in Paris? Beautiful! Great book with and ending that I DID NOT expect. But I bet what I DID expect will happen in further books. I wish the relationship with Kate and Vincent didn't kick off so suddenly though. I like books with a slow relationship progression. Either that or a lot more kissing! haha...

Vincent was perfect...no argument! Kate was also great, but I didn't like how emotional she was all the time. How affected she was by her past. But I mean, I guess if I were her I'd also be pretty affected by my past, too! I also thought it was strange that the author made her 16 years old. Why? Couldn't she be in college? I thought maybe there would be something in the book that made it necessary for her to be in high school, but it never came. And her sister Georgia was only a couple years older (18), and yet she has been going to clubs and bars for awhile? That didn't make sense. Maybe French laws are different, but they came from the US. Hm... But I really liked all of the revenants! The boys flirting with Kate was adorable, even though she was taken, and Charlotte was a great friend to Kate, and vice versa. I also loved the close relationship between Kate and Georgia. They seemed like true sisters!

Kate, Vincent, Ambrose, Jules, JB, Gaspard, Charlotte, Charlie, Lucion... All good names! Cute and creative! Georgia...Well that name kind of stood out from the rest of the book. Didn't fit in quite right. But since the other names were great, 5 points!
Writing/Depth: 27 points
I've read books with better writing depth, but this book certainly wasn't bad in that respect! And the perfect amount of humor was incorporated into the book. The scenes were just about the right length, too. Moved right a long quite nicely!
