Confess - 72 points

Title: Confess
Author: Colleen Hoover

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

POINT BREAKDOWN

Plot: 40 points

Sadly, this is one of my least favorite Hoover books so far. It was one of those books that, when good parts were there, it was good! But the majority of the book is sadness, lies, secrets,.....weirdness. IDK... they whole idea of how Owen and Auburn are connected is just very weird to me. I didn't really connect with the plot.

Like I said... when things were good, they were good! Just wish there were more good times. I

Characters: 12 points

Both of them had some lies and secrets.. and some messed up families. And because there wasn't even a lot of romance in this book, it was hard for me to judge the characters.

I know there was one thing that I really didn't like... Owen would say something like, "Tell me I deserve you..." I was like, "Huh? How is that even romantic? Not only is that arrogant, but it's incredibly chauvinistic."

At any rate... characters weren't very special to me. I think if there was more romance, I would have gotten to know them better. Even just a little more flirting and lightheartedness. The negative-Nancy parts of this book pretty much just dominate.

Writing/Depth: 20 points

I'm honestly not sure how this book got a 4.33 on goodreads, but maybe because people expected that due to Hoover being the author. I still have a special place in my heart for Hoover... I always will. Her writing is incredible! I can see what she was trying to do with this book... it's got a creative plot. Something that's definitely unique and different. She just didn't quite hit the nail on the head with this one... that's my opinion though.

However, I will still continue to look forward to her books! Really, she will always be one of my favorite writers :)
