Do yourself a huge favor... what I'm about to tell you is very important, and I'm dead serious.
Did you get that???? DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK UNTIL MAY 16TH, 2015!!!!
You may be anxious to buy this book like I was (I literally bought it before reading the abstract because, come on, it's Colleen Hoover so I know I'll love it), but the cliffhanger in this book is UN-FREAKING-BEARABLE!
Not to mention, this book is very short, so you will only need a day to read it. Is it worth the $2.99 I paid? Sure. I'm supporting one of my favorite authors, so absolutely. But this book is super, duper short (140 pages). Just warning you!
So why May 16th? Because book #2 doesn't come out until May 17th, and you WIILL need to know what happens immediately after this book ends.
I have to admit, I've never read a Tarryn Fisher book. But what I'm guessing is that she mainly just helped with the plot... because the writing seems mostly Hoover-style.
This book is pretty amazing... I really don't know what to say without giving too much away. But unlike what the abstract says, they are BOTH trying to remember and BOTH trying to forget, because BOTH of their pasts don't seem very stellar at times, yet they obviously want to know what's going on and what they can't remember.
This series is going to be a story of learning to love each other all over again (which I can't wait for), but also just learning in general. Learning about who they were, what they like, what they did, what happened, what's going to happen... etc. I can't see how this book could possible turn out to be anything but a paranormal book, since what happened to them doesn't seem possible in real life (and I was a psychology major), but we don't know for sure. That part isn't clear yet. Maybe it will be some fictional disease or something... so something between Young Adult romance and Paranormal.
At any rate, it's a great read! My only complaint being the short length of the book.
And one more thing....
Don't buy this book until May 16th, 2015!
Characters: 20 points
Would I hang out with these people? No, probably not. They seem to be a quarterback/head cheerleader duo. But for the plot of the book, they seem perfect!
Charlie: Charlie is less likable than Silas I would say. Her true self seems to be coming in to view more quickly than Silas. Her attitude is a little irritating at times, but she's also very analytical and calculating, which I like.
Silas: Silas seems pretty great... the ying to Charlie's yang. They are enough alike and yet enough dissimilar to get along well with each other. At least for right now. Their past? Well we don't know how they were with each other back then...
Writing/Depth: 30 points
Hoover always gets full points, or close to full points in this area! Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, I haven't actually heard of Tarryn Fisher or read any of her books. So I can't tell how much of this book was influenced by Fisher. Maybe she writes just like Hoover... in that case I will be checking out her books! Or maybe Fisher just gave some ideas. I haven't read a book with quite as much mystery as this one by Hoover, so for some reason I think that's where Fisher's contribution to this book lies.
Once again, I forgot to see how many pages this book had, and I didn't even know it was a book in a series (because I bought it so fast), so the abrupt ending was a slight disappointment for me. But how much story is there to tell in a 48 hour period? ;)
