New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.
Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

It was really nice to read another book that incorporates a little bit of greek mythology into it! As everyone knows from all my Covenant Series reviews, it's a theme I really, really like. And in addition to that, this book has a little bit of real history meshed in as well.
I really like what Cabot did with the Underworld theme. The other books I've read with the GM theme describe the Underworld a little differently (and yet still somewhat the same), so it's nice to see a little twist on it. The same goes with Persephone. Somewhat the same, and somewhat different. As you will find out in the book, it's not just about Hades and Persephone though. The story of John and Pierce is unique and...well...more complicated I guess. But it's the complicated parts of the relationship that make this book so great. The push and pull, push and pull...the mixture of opposite types of emotions between them that causes the relationship to be so complicated...it's all very well written :)
Definitely a book plot I thoroughly enjoyed reading! Couldn't put the book down! I ended up showing up late somewhere because I had to finish it before I left...LOL.
Pierce has SO much past to deal with! Her life hasn't been easy since the second time she met John. But really even before that. Most people in her situation would be so overwhelmed that they'd probably check out of life. But since that wouldn't help her problems much anyways, she stays strong and continues to fight to be "normal" again. Her parents have problems, her grandma has problems, her uncle and cousin have problems...she's basically a core of problems surrounded by problems! Not to mention her BIGGEST problems... which are her encounters with John. And just when you think there couldn't possibly be anymore problems to be had...even more problems show up. Yet, she keeps fighting! I love that about Pierce. And I love how she doesn't really care what other people think of her or say about her. I guess when you've experienced all she has, you stop caring about little things like what people think or say about you...
John is...well...a little tormented obviously. And moody, as we see in the book. I don't want to give much away about him, but his job just isn't an easy one, and Pierce's issues with him doesn't make his life any easier. You can tell from the first time he meets Pierce that he just needs a break from his duties. He needs someone to care enough about him to be his companion. Pierce of all people should understand that...and maybe she does ;)

Meg Cabot has the true essence of a great writer!!! The way she writes has "Best Seller" written all over it. The detailed descriptions of the plot and the emotions, the complex story line, the bits of humor, the mystery...all great throughout the whole book! If there was ONE thing about this book that I might change just a bit, it would be the fact that a lot of it is written more like a story. Not a whole lot of people actually talking to each other in it. Except about the last 1/4 to 1/3 of the book, which has a lot more talking in it. But a lot has to be explained in this book, so the story-type writing is quite understandable. And maybe the next book(s), which I'm really looking forward to, will have more talking since the storyline has been pretty much developed now. We shall see!!!
