Title: Frigid
Series Info: Frigid #1
Author: Jennifer Armentrout
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.
Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.
But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.
Plot: 45 points
The whole "In love with your best friend" theme is great, and the whole "stuck in a cabin all alone with your best friend (who you like)" is also great, which is why I gave the 45 points for the plot. And plus, there WERE times in the book that I was absolutely swooned by Kyler!!! I can't say my problem with this book was necessarily the plot or idea behind the book, but mostly the writing. More on that later!
There were some mystery parts in the book - which I wasn't expecting, by the way - that I think either should have been left out or changed. It didn't go with the plot at all, and I thought it was pretty much unnecessary.
Sydney: For the most part Sydney was OK, but she was a little too inexperienced for me (which made it awkward at times), and she also seemed kind of desperate a couple times during the book (like, when she and Kyler were by the window for example). Other than that, she seems like a normal college student with a crush on her best friend!
Kyler: Kyler was VERY swoon-worthy, but his reputation as a playboy made it really hard for me to picture him falling for Sydney at all. I can see where the player turned good boy thing is cute, but to me that would make him very hard to trust if I were Sydney.
Writing/Depth: 20 points
This is where I think J. Lynn failed the most. And, like I said, she is one of my all time favorite authors! I wouldn't have expected as much out of this book if she wasn't.
#1, the whit and humor in J. Lynn books that I usually see just wasn't there hardly at all in Frigid. That takes just about all of the fun out of a book for me.
#2, I just think that, given the plot, J. Lynn could have come up with SO much more material. On top of that, I seemed almost like she only had 3 days to write it or something, because everything seemed pretty disorganized and random. I don't know how to explain it, but it's almost like she didn't think about what she was going to write before she wrote it.
I will commend J. Lynn for her very swoony male lead character though :) She always gives them features that I love on guys, and she always makes the perfect steamy scenes! This book is absolutely no exception in that regard! :)
Just a side note: There IS some sexual intimacy in this book, so be advised that it is New Adult, as apposed to Young Adult.
